Wellington games company enters Japan

WELLINGTON, APRIL 1st -- Wellington games company Instinct Entertainment has signed a deal with a Japanese investor to develop its games creation and e-commerce software for the Japanese market, said a press release issued by the company recently.

According to the agreement signed between the web and mobile phone games company and Tokyo-based investor Terrie Lloyd, the company will launch its Game Creator software in Japan later this year, and Lloyd will assist in localisation, marketing and distribution.

Lloyd said, "We believe that the mobile games platform in particular has very good prospects here in Japan and elsewhere in North Asia."

Instinct CEO and founder Dan Milward was a member of a high-level delegation to Hong Kong earlier March, where a memorandum of understanding was also signed between Wellington and Hong Kong.

Instinct's Game Creator software is a point-and-click web and mobile game creation engine powered by Adobe Systems software, and its e-commerce plug-in for Word Press is a shopping cart application with over 300,000 users worldwide.

Does anybody know how to contact somebody at zipzap.co.nz?
We are trying to interface an e-Commerce site with them but they are not at all present.

Not only do they not accept phone calls (wtf) but nor do they answer emails. I'm stumped and genuienly want to make something work with their payment gateway.

Flash Lite 3

My friend and colleageue Weyert de Boer (co author of Foundation Flash Applications for Mobile Devices (Foundation)pointed this out to me yesterday.

Flash Lite 3, video: Adobe announcement at 3GSM...

"Flash Lite 3, expected to be available in the first half of 2007... Flash Lite will support the same video formats supported by Adobe Flash Player and will directly support video streams delivered by the Adobe Flash Media Server."

Meanwhile, shipped Flash-savvy devices have tripled over the year, topping 200 million, with 70% of them outside Japan, and Flash Cast server trials are now occurring in every region. This sounds similar to the On2 speculation after their announcement last week. The Adobe site hasn't changed yet, but we'll probably have more news on this summer's release of Adobe Flash Lite 3 to manufacturers later in the week.

Instinct just received this invitation from Adobe’s Flash Lite product team….

“Nokia Asia has asked me to recommend the top 5 FL developers in Aust/NZ and I consider you one of them…”

I'm quite excited about this because it means all the work Instinct has put over the last few years honing their skills, developing fun, unique mobile gaming experiences is paying off and not going unnoticed.

On another note I saw a documentary on the weekend about the old school game Doom, the game that started it all (well second to castle wolfenstein). Although slightly geeky and pale these guys were totally inspiring...

1. Did you know that ID software don't do user testing? They state that they are game players and when it is cool enough for them to want to play then its cool enough for their public!
2. There were more copies of Doom floating around then Microsoft Windows at one stage
3. Around 10 million were sold
4. Around 60 million were freely distributed

iPhone

I know this might not be true or legitimate but I would love to own an iPhone. Even without seeing an iPhone or having confirmation from Apple that these are coming, even without touching one I would probably buy one. Now that is what I call power! You see everything I have ever owned from Apple just works... isn't that the kind of customer rapport every business should be aspiring to?
